For this presentation John C. Hoelscher and Sheva P. Willoughby will show how utilizing a lean/collaborative design process along with an integrated project delivery method, fosters design innovation.

The new $100 M St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC) addition will be used as a case study showing how innovation was achieved in the Emergency Department (ED) and Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through the use of this design approach.

Through the SFMC project, the presenters will introduce the concepts of “Immersion,” “Current State Analysis,” and “Future State Goals” to arrive at the Operational and Functional Program. It was through this process that the beginnings of a new patient care model began to evolve.
