Looking for a summer learning opportunity, check out the ARCH 518 Summer FACT Organizational Meeting!

FACT is the UNL, College of Architecture’s Fabrication And Construction Team.
FACT engages design intensive projects and creative, non-profit clients in collaborations that span design and construction. FACT operates an academic/professional collaborative design lab exploring the complex relationships between thinking (conceiving, designing, theorizing) and making.

FACT is a “do-tank”, a lab in which ideas and new knowledge are developed though action as well as thought. Where typical academic design studios focus on ideation, conceptualization, and presentation. FACT offers students an opportunity to focus on the creative opportunities embedded in the development and realization of projects. FACT has won numerous design awards including ACSA’s first national Design Build Award in 2013 and the 2016 ACSA Collaborative Practice Award. FACT projects have been published widely. At the core of FACT are projects engaging places of intersection between the production and consumption of culture - where the creators and audiences meet. www.factlab.org

FACT 14: The Sandhills Institute

Founded by artist Mel Zeigler, the Sandhills Institute is a catalyst for the creation of civically-engaged integrated art in and around the agricultural community of Rushville, Nebraska. The Institute forges strong bonds between the community of local ranchers and farmers and leading artists from around the world for the purpose of developing experimental programs grounded in collaborative research and creative expression. The goal of these programs is to strengthen the economic, environmental and cultural fabric of this unique area.

The Institute magnifies the impact of its work by sharing the results of its work with other peer institutions, both agricultural and artistic, whose mission is to sustain and preserve America’s rural communities. This is the beginning of a long-term engagement with the Institute. The primary goal for summer 2018 is to construct phase one of “The Grocery”, a former grocery store FACT is converting into a gallery and community meeting place in Rushville.
