The Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Lecture Series presents the first two lectures of the fall 2016 season. Deborah Luster and Shoko Teruyama, both of whom are Nebraska National jurors, will give consecutive public lectures.

Deborah Luster uses photography, installation and text to investigate her ongoing relationship with violence and its consequences. Luster’s work has been shown at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art; and the Museum of Contemporary Photography; among other venues. Luster’s awards include the Dorothea Lange—Paul Taylor Prize for Documentary Photography from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, an Anonymous Was a Woman Award and the John Guttman Award. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and other notable public and private collections.

Nebraska National is an annual undergraduate juried art exhibition with a national call. Each year three different media disciplines are featured, and in 2016 these are ceramics (Juror–Shoko Teruyama), photography (Juror–Deborah Luster), and printmaking (Juror–Nicole Pietrantoni).
