Dr. Dylan K. Kosma, assistant professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Physics, University of Nevada Reno, will present the seminar “A Corky Predicament: Investigating the Regulated Deposition of the Lipid-Phenolic Plant Heteropolymer Suberin.”

Dylan completed his undergraduate and MS at Southern Illinois in plant biology where he worked on bryophyte abiotic stress tolerance and plant cyanide metabolism. He received a Ph.D. from Purdue University where he began his journey into plant lipid biosynthesis by studying plant cuticle biosynthesis with an emphasis on the functional role of plant cuticles in drought stress tolerance. He continued his research on plant cuticles and suberin biosynthesis at Michigan State University during which time he discovered the first transcriptional regulator of suberin biosynthesis.
