Presented by Dr. Kathrin Schrick, associate professor, Division of Biology, Kansas State University.
Over the past 15 years, Schrick and her team have been intrigued by the occurrence of Steroidogenic acute regulatory-protein (StAR) related lipid transfer (START) domains in plant homeodomain leucine-zipper (HD-Zip) transcription factors. Schrick will present recent work highlighting START domains and their role in regulation of gene expression during development in Arabidopsis. In addition, her group has begun studying the emergence of plant-specific HD-Zip transcription factors in the Charophycean green algae, and is conducting experiments that seek to reveal their regulatory ligands.
