Audubon’s Nebraska Crane Festival
Celebrating America’s Greatest Migration for 48 Years
Gibbon NE (January 24, 2018) – Audubon’s Nebraska Crane Festival, March 22-25, 2018, brings together nature enthusiasts from around the country to Kearney, Nebraska, for an exciting weekend of field trips, speakers, and wildlife demonstrations, all centered around the amazing migration of hundreds of thousands of Sandhill Cranes and millions of waterfowl through central Nebraska.
National and local speakers will present information on a variety of wildlife and conservation topics during speaker sessions March 23 and 24. Saturday’s main speaker is Noppadol Paothong, an award-winning nature and conservation photographer with the Missouri Department of Conservation, and author of the just released book “Sage Grouse: Icon of the West.” In addition, the festival will feature Rich Beilfuss, Ph.D, president and CEO of the International Crane Foundation, who will present on cranes as ambassadors for conservation.
The festival is also providing a wide range of field trips to Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary and other central Nebraska wildlife viewing areas.
According to Anne Winkel, festival coordinator, “We are excited to expand our field trip opportunities for the 2018 Crane Festival”. New field trips include trips to see Greater Prairie-Chickens in McCook or Mullen. Audubon is also partnering with the Willa Cather Foundation to provide a crane viewing experience and trip to tour Cather’s hometown of Red Cloud. The Wild Experience Room returns this year to the Kearney Public Library on Saturday, March 24, from 10 am-2 pm with free family-fun activities and live animals.
