Speakers & Presentations:
The Positive Impact of Bluebirds in Blue Springs by Dean Cole
Dean Cole is a native of Blue Springs, NE, and resides in Lincoln, NE. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and retired with the state of Nebraska after serving 27 years as the Nebraska Statewide Emergency Medical Services/Trauma Program director. Cole is a member of a group called the Springers, who volunteer maintaining the Chief Standing Bear Trail, Blue Springs Trailhead. He is pursuing a certification as a Master Naturalist through the Nebraska Master Naturalist Program, sponsored by the University of Nebraska School of Natural Resources.
Bluebirds 101 by Steve & Regina Garr
Steve and Regina Garr have been presenting educational programs on attracting backyard wildlife for more than three decades. They are co-founders of two state bluebird organizations, the current president and secretary of the Missouri Bluebird Society, and recipients of the North American Bluebird Society’s John and Nora Lane Award for their contributions to Bluebird Conservation. They maintain a Bluebird trail in the center of Jefferson City, MO, but they are known for having maintained successful trails in settings ranging from rural habitats to urban Nashville, TN.
Thinking Outside the Box by Scott Schmidt
Scott Schmidt grew up on a small farm along the banks of Three Mile Creek in southwest Minnesota. As a youngster—fishing, tree climbing, and running barefoot—a seed was planted that matured into a wildlife biologist. He is now working with Pheasants Forever in Nebraska. How do we nurture more seeds to grow our cause for conservation? People who want future generations to enjoy bluebirds across Nebraska know that we have to tell our story to keep conservation relevant, meaningful and personal.
Bird Nests: Amazingly Ingenious & Intricate by Stan Tekiela
Stan Tekiela of Eden Prairie, MN, is a professional naturalist, wildlife photographer and writer. He has authored more than 130 field guides presenting many species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, trees, wildflowers, and cacti. His syndicated column appears in more than 20 newspapers, and his wildlife radio programs are broadcast on a number of Midwest radio stations.
