Irrigation season is almost hear and it will bring the age-old question of When should I start irrigating and how much water should I apply back to everyone’s minds. The University of Nebraska and the Upper Big Blue NRD are partnering to conduct two workshops to help you answer that very question. The program will focus on installing and making irrigation scheduling decisions using the data generated for Watermark sensors.
The educational program will include two presentations. The first will be Instillation of Watermark Sensor and Data Logger presented by Dan Leininger, Water Conservationist with the Upper Big Blue NRD. The second will be Deciding When and How Much Water to Apply Using Watermark Sensor Readings presented by Steve Melvin, Extension Educator with University Of Nebraska Extension. The irrigation scheduling strategies presented in Steve’s presentation can be used with any soil water monitoring equipment data.
“The mission of the event is to share cutting edge irrigation management strategies that can help farmers apply just the right amount of water to their crops to produce top yields, reduce energy costs, leave more water in the aquifer and reduce nitrate leaching” said Steve Melvin. “The program is free of charge to the participant’s thanks to our sponsors.”
