Tonight’s concert is a celebration of voices in all their forms, including the human voice – this concert features four new compositions for chorus, alongside premieres of pieces for ensembles from all across the spectrum. Like all Flyover concerts, it is only possible through the fearless contributions of not just our composers, but the performers who tackle and stand behind new music for its first hearing, and the audience which creates an environment in which these voices can be heard.
The Flyover New Music Series is the new music series from the composition studio at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. The series is administered and overseen by composition faculty and students.
Flyover New Music’s mission is to:
• Foster collaboration among Nebraska student composers and performers.
• Provide audience members with professional-quality artistic and listening experiences.
• Engage with diverse groups of listeners through dynamic, ambitious performances in a myriad of venues and constructs.
• Provide listeners and performers with opportunities to encounter new music from diverse composers, both in and outside the Nebraska community.
• Expose listeners and performers to masterworks of contemporary music.
• Provide composers professional training and experience in conceiving and presenting live events.
• Use music and performance to create meaningful connections between the Nebraska composition studio and the communities of Lincoln, of Nebraska, and of the region and nation.
The Flyover New Music Series is the only concert series at the Glenn Korff School of Music in which students are the core of not only the music, but the production. Student volunteers compose and perform all music, organize all performances, and work on support teams for Flyover concerts. In collaboration with the faculty advisors, students oversee publicity and community outreach for Flyover, as well as organizing and producing off-campus Flyover Satellite concerts.
Free and open to the public.
