Dr. G. Marcela Rodriguez, associate professor, Public Health Research Institute, New Jersey Medical School, Rutgers University, will present the seminar “Iron homeostasis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mechanisms and role in pathogenesis.”
Dr. Rodriguez studies metal regulation and iron metabolism in mycobacteria. Her research has significantly contributed to the current understanding of the molecular mechanisms utilized by pathogenic M. tuberculosis to acquire iron and regulate cellular iron homeostasis. Her work has also uncovered multiple aspects of the iron response that are key to mycobacterial pathogenesis.
