The American writer James Baldwin argued that “Western humanism is a lie.” Both Blacks and Jews have strong reasons to support that view. In this lecture, Senior Lecturer Jean Cahan will respond by looking at the work of two great Western philosophers, and respond that humanism is not a lie, merely a half-truth. This lecture is co-sponsored by UNL’s Harris Center for Judaic Studies and the Department of Philosophy.

The lecture will be given in person as well as through Zoom. A question and answer session will be conducted by Dr. Cahan over the final 20 minutes of the lecture.

IMPORTANT: COVID-19 protocol only allows for 12 attendees, if you plan on attending this lecture in person, please contact Jean Cahan at jcahan1@unl.edu. All other participants online will be required to register for Zoom in advance.
