Mahmudul Hasan will present his comprehensive exam topic, “Anion Photoelectron Spectroscopy via Velocity Map Imaging” in person.

ABSTRACT: Anion photoelectron spectroscopy is a powerful technique for exploring the interactions in various clusters and exotic molecules, directly probing the electronic structure of the corresponding neutral species. The advantage of photoelectron imaging lies in its high detection efficiency while yielding photoelectron angular distribution at the same time. A velocity map imaging (VMI) spectrometer is capable of measuring simultaneously kinetic energy distribution and photoelectron angular distributions making it suitable for photoelectron spectroscopy. In this study, I will show how VMI setup works, what information we can get from the measurement and describe one data analysis method. I also present an experimental setup of VMI apparatus that should fit in our existing set and can be operated in a pump-probe manner.
