Director’s Note

Tonight marks the conclusion of our second season of Flyover New Music. The series of five concerts and dozens of world premieres was possible only through the combined effort of 26 composers, a fiercely dedicated and tireless team of volunteers, and nearly 100 individual performers. In donating their time, energy, and talents to this series, all of these individuals pronounced their belief in the simple philosophy behind Flyover: that new music, created and performed by fearless, dedicated artists, can help all those present – onstage and in the audience – achieve new heights of awareness, togetherness, and community.

It is fitting, then, that this final concert begins with a fanfare: a musical flourish designed to announce and celebrate the presence of someone or something grand. The themes within are typically varied, a perfect illustration of the diversity of thought and experience within our composition studio. While the other thematic namesake for our program, “farewell,” is present in the music, it is never melancholy or grieved, but vibrant, passionate, and looking ahead. Indeed, “farewell” here is not signifying the end of the story, merely the end of a chapter. In total, this program celebrates the successes of our season and of our composers, and from its fanfares to its farewells, it is a gesture of immense gratitude for the community of listeners, volunteers, and collaborators that make this series possible.

Assistant Professor of Composition

The Flyover New Music Series is the new music series from the composition studio at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. The series is administered and overseen by composition faculty and students.

The Flyover New Music Series is the only concert series at the Glenn Korff School of Music in which students are the core of not only the music, but the production. Student volunteers compose and perform all music, organize all performances, and work on support teams for Flyover concerts. In collaboration with the faculty advisors, students oversee publicity and community outreach for Flyover, as well as organizing and producing off-campus Flyover Satellite concerts.

Adults $5; Students/Seniors 3
