Robert E. Thomas was a fisheries biologist whose career spanned more than two decades with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The Robert E. Thomas Memorial Scholarship was established and is funded by donations from the family of Robert E. Thomas and the Nebraska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. It serves to assist students interested the science and management of fisheries and aquatic resources.
The awards are available to students that will be entering their junior or senior year at a college or university in Nebraska and demonstrate a career path leading to professional service in the field of fishery resources. Beyond their academic standing, applicants may demonstrate their interest and dedication by activities such as: participation in student fisheries clubs/organizations, student membership in the American Fisheries Society, or participation as an intern or volunteer with a local, state, or federal natural resource agency.
This year’s scholarship will provide a monetary award (about $1,000) and membership to the American Fisheries Society and the Nebraska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year scholarship are now being accepted and are due by 5:00 pm February 16, 2024.
