October Teaching and Learning Faculty Workshop: Using Classroom Spaces Effectively

Date:
Time:
2:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Hawks Hall 202
Whether you are teaching in the large auditoriums or you are teaching in one of the many “cluster” classrooms in Hawks Hall, you are most likely experiencing a completely different way of teaching and interacting with your students. The design of these classrooms allow our courses to scale enrollment (in the auditoriums) or increase the interaction and active learning engagement activities that you use in teaching your students. These spaces provide a number of opportunities (and challenges). The Teaching and Learning Center Faculty Workshop series will launch this fall with a workshop designed to involve you in a number of strategies to best use these spaces.

We will initiate the session by sending you a blog post to read the day before the workshop, with a brief accountability quiz that you can complete in Canvas prior to attending the workshop (this should take no more than 15 minutes). The day of the workshop, we will kick off in a cluster classroom (Hawks Hall 202) with some group activities that include brainstorming, polling, the marker boards, in-class discussions, etc). Approximately 45 minutes into the workshop, we will relocate to the auditorium (Hawks Hall 010) where we will use the Catchbox and engage you in a range of interactions that are appropriate for a large class (fishbowl demonstrations, snowball discussions, etc.). We will wrap up the session with a fun competition (brush up on your Halloween trivia) using Kahoot!
