Please consider announcing to upper level classes for Jr., Sr, and Grad Students the following information. Many students are not aware of the Phi Upsilon Omicron (PHI U) scholastic, service, and leadership honorary. If they have received invitations, they may not open them or may toss them. We thank you for considering this announcement. The scholarship opportunities are excellent if they are active and have high GPAs.
Phi Upsilon Omicron, a National Honor Society in Family and Consumer Sciences (Human Sciences), has over 87,000 members.
Phi Upsilon Omicron is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.
Forms need to be returned to the Dean’s office in the Home Economics Building, Room 105, East Campus by 5 p.m. by February 14.
The purposes of the Phi Upsilon Omicron Human Sciences scholastic honorary are to: Recognize and promote academic excellence, enhance qualities of leadership and provide opportunities for service. Phi U is only one of two national scholastic honoraries focused on the total Human Sciences discipline and is over 100 years old. Recently an invitation was sent to those eligible according to their scholastic standing (GPA). Invitations go to Juniors, Seniors and Graduate Students having a major in one of three departments in CEHS ( TCD, Nutrition & Health Sciences, and FCS) and who meet the qualifications of being in the upper 30% of their class.
This is an active group in our college that focuses on leadership and service in addition to scholarship. We work with minority groups, Friendship home for abused women and children, elderly and other audiences. Many scholarships at higher values of $700 to $2500 are available nationally, and each year, our chapter has 4 to 6 national winners.
IF you need more information about the honorary, contact Dr. Shirley Niemeyer, Rm. 205, HE Bldg. or 472-2911 or any current PHI U member or call Dr. Georgia Stevens at 486-3534. Or ask your instructor for more information.
