A collaborative team of scholars in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln have planned four online Racial Literacy Roundtables for the fall semester. The events will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. CT on Sept. 2, Sept. 23, Oct. 14 and Nov. 11.

All CEHS students, faculty and staff are invited to participate. Instructors are encouraged to incorporate the events into their syllabi for the fall semester. Registration is required. Visit https://cehs.unl.edu/racial-literacy-roundtables/ to register for each roundtable

“Together through Racial Literacy Roundtables, we are seeking to find and claim our abilities as anti-racists from a variety of backgrounds and identities,” said Kara Viesca, associate professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, and a member of the Racial Literacy Roundtables leadership team.

The Racial Literacy Roundtables initiative was launched in fall 2019 through the support of a University of Nebraska Inclusive Excellence Development Grant. The Roundtables are designed to help students and pre-service teachers develop their racial literacy skills. The discussions will focus on relevant topics regarding race and racism in education.

In addition to Viesca, others on the Racial Literacy Roundtables leadership team are Kelley Buchheister, Braden Foreman, Victoria Foort, Tricia Gray, Xiaoyan Gu, Amanda Morales, Bonodji Nako, Amy Napoli, Rachel Schachter and Julie Tippens.
