Brittany Brakenhoff, a Research Assistant Professor at UNL, is passionate about increasing education and awareness about the impact of trauma. She will share her personal story and journey of navigating recovery from sexual assault as a college student, while also incorporating research on trauma, PTSD, and the far-reaching effects of silence.

Jake Dilsaver, Captain of the Special Victims Unit with the Lincoln Police Department, played an important role in Brittany’s reporting journey by utilizing a trauma-informed approach that helped create a positive reporting experience. Captain Dilsaver is committed to continuously striving to ensure LPD follows best practices in sensitive investigations and improving the experience for survivors.

*Content Warning: This event will include discussions around and the sharing of personal experiences with child sexual abuse, sexual violence, alcoholism, intergenerational trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Those who attend are encouraged to exercise self-care. There will be confidential advocates from CARE in attendance for those who may wish to speak with someone.
