On Friday, Oct. 20, Richard Harris, the retired director of student disability services at Ball State University, will present “Disability Humor: The Bridge Over the Discomfort Gap.” Staff should register to attend at http://research.unl.edu/events/event.php?eventID=2925.
In his presentation, Harris addresses the uneasiness some people may experience when encountering somebody with a noticeable disability. A range of oral humor and cartoons will be used to explain how to work through discomfort and build effective interpersonal relationships. Participants will gain strategies to work with all student populations and enjoy networking with colleagues.
