Over the last year and a half, many of our practices and traditions were forced to change almost overnight. This fall, there is a strong urge to return to the ‘normalcy’ we used to have, but it is important to recognize that some changes had good outcomes. We developed more intentional pedagogies, thoughtfully adopted new technologies, and most importantly, listened closely to the voices of our students. This often resulted in classrooms that were more inclusive and equitable for students.
Moving forward will require intentionally integrating the useful updates from the last year into our traditional face-to-face experiences. This interactive workshop is designed to help you examine your courses from before and during the pandemic to identify the strongest aspects of each. You will reflect on elements such as your syllabus policies, assignments, and student interactions to ensure that your fall courses incorporate the ‘best of both worlds.’
If possible, participants should bring a laptop along with syllabi and other course materials from courses taught both before and during the pandemic. If you are relatively new to teaching or haven’t had the opportunity to teach in both situations, you will still have the opportunity to discuss ideas with other instructors and learn from their experiences.
Participants may attend this workshop in person or via Zoom.
