STATUS:CONFIRMED
DESCRIPTION:Maria-Elena De Trinidad Young\, PhD\, MPH\, will join us for ou
r October Grand Rounds event to discuss “Immigration\, Mental Health\, a
nd Health Care Access among Latinos in Rural Communities.” Dr. Young is
an Assistant Professor of Public Health at the University of California\,
Merced. \n\nIn her presentation\, Dr. Young will share key findings from t
he Policies Influencing Rural Latino Health (PIRLH) Study\, a population-b
ased survey examining how U.S.- and foreign-born Latinos experience and na
vigate immigration policy in rural communities in California and Arizona.
She will explore the relationship between immigration policy and the well-
being of this population and share lessons learned from conducting researc
h with hard-to-reach populations. \n\nDr. Young is an immigrant health sch
olar whose research focuses on understanding the impact of the U.S. immigr
ation system on the health and well-being of immigrants and their families
. She has developed new frameworks and measures to examine the intersectio
 ns of immigration policies\, citizenship/legal status\, and health\, and h
as conducted some of the first empirical studies demonstrating that immigr
