Virtual 4-H Camp
The Grand Challenges of Engineering

During this one-week virtual camp, high school students will learn about the power of engineering and science to solve global grand challenges, as outlined in the report entitled “14 Grand Challenges for Engineering” by the US National Academy of Engineering. The Grand Challenges that we will focus on during this week will be “Restore and Improve Urban Infrastructure,” “Provide Access to Clean Water,” and “Secure Cyberspace,” where you will learn about cybersecurity and cryptography. Each daily engineering challenge will be taught by UNL faculty, students, and staff.
Supplies needed: copy paper (10 sheets minimum), scissors, masking tape or similar, freestanding fan (preferably multi-speed), clean water, 10 small cups or clear paper cups (3 or 5 oz), food coloring, eye dropper or plastic pipet, access to an internet browser, paper, pencil, 50 index cards, beanbag stuffed animal or similar weighted object, one of the following: post-in notes, plastic spoon, rubber band, toothbrush, or binder clip

Registration is $75. Open to ages 14-18.
