Little Women’s libretto (written by Mark Adamo) adapts Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel about four sisters who come of age just after the American Civil War. Exploring three central themes of the Little Women book, Adamo’s opera focuses upon Jo March’s resistance to the passage of time.
UNL Opera & Musical Theatre share a mission to educate graduate and undergraduate students in the art of music theatre by providing high quality training and meaningful performance experience. Season auditions are open to all voice students at all levels of interest. Performers range from freshman music education majors working toward jobs in the public schools to graduate performance majors committed to an operatic career. The program aims to give every qualified student as much on-stage experience as their time and energy will allow. In this way, UNL can serve as both a training ground for the serious voice student and as a vocational cultural experience for those learners seeking a more general education.
