Last year, we launched the Flyover New Music Series with the belief that the music written and performed by students in the Glenn Korff School of Music could create a community of musicians and listeners who come together to achieve new heights of humanity and togetherness. The success we found in our first year was more than we could have dreamed, and the outpouring of support from friends in the community and the School of Music has been nothing short of astounding.

To begin our second season, we present a concert of wildly diverse and colorful music, ranging from jazz quartet to steelpan to tango. This variety is one of my favorite traits of Flyover: the feeling that you never know what you will hear. In the absence of a common instrumentation, composer, or other curated theme, listeners are challenged to find their own through-lines in each concert. In this particular program, I see Moods and Dreams: explorations of states of mind and emotion, whether in the composers themselves or in those around them. Tonight is a celebration of the power of new music to reflect who we are, both to ourselves and each other – and a perfect way to welcome you to the second year of Flyover.

The Flyover New Music Series is from the composition studio at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. The series is administered and overseen by composition faculty and students.

The Flyover New Music Series is the only concert series at the Glenn Korff School of Music in which students are the core of not only the music, but the production. Student volunteers compose and perform all music, organize all performances, and work on support teams for Flyover concerts. In collaboration with the faculty advisors, students oversee publicity and community outreach for Flyover, as well as organizing and producing off-campus Flyover Satellite concerts.
