The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Jazz Studies area in the Glenn Korff School of Music is proud to present the opening jazz concert of the 2018-19 season, featuring the UNL Big Band and the UNL Jazz Orchestra – “Kickoff”. This concert will take place on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in Kimball Recital at 7:30 p.m. This concert will feature classic works for big band as well as original pieces and arrangements.

BIG BAND is a vital component of the University’s jazz curriculum. Through intensive rehearsal and performance, students are encouraged to develop and nurture the fundamental skills necessary to perform a wide variety of repertoire, and to engage in the creative process through improvisation. Nebraska Big Band is specifically designed to motivate and inform music educators and aspiring teachers through innovative programming and pedagogical methods.

The JAZZ ORCHESTRA is the university’s showcase jazz organization and one of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s most visible performing groups. Membership in the Jazz Orchestra is determined by audition each semester, and music majors as well as non-majors are encouraged to try out. This versatile ensemble performs all styles of music from Duke Ellington to the contemporary artists of today.
