All are invited to attend a virtual presentation on advancing institutional innovation for a more inclusive and diverse STEM faculty.
The presentation will examine recent successes in recruiting women for STEM faculty positions and growth in women promoted to lead STEM departments (which increased from zero to three positions). It will also examine the university’s ongoing process related to a self-assessment and the creation of a strategic plan to build on recent successes.
The event is free and open to faculty, instructors, staff and students. Registration is required.
The presentation will be led by Marco Barker, vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion; and Judy Walker, associate vice chancellor for faculty and academic affairs in the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Aaron Douglas Professor of mathematics.
The work is guided by the Aspire Institutional Change initiative, which is led by the Association of Public Land-grant Universities’ National Alliance for Inclusive and Diverse STEM Faculty. Through the initiative, participating universities assess current practices and resources related to the recruitment and retention of STEM faculty from underrepresented groups. It also aims to strengthen inclusive teaching, advising and research mentoring across all STEM faculty positions.
