“Liver-Mediated Clearance of Both Natural and Synthetic Compounds via the Class H Stabilin Receptors” will be presented by Edward Harris, assistant professor of Biochemistry.

Dr. Harris began his work on the cloning and characterization of the Stabilin receptors in 2002 during his post-doc training and continues this work in his current research program. Stabilin-2 or HARE was first recognized as a systemic regulator of hyaluronan in the body and is now known to have a multitude of ligands including most chondroitin sulfates, heparin, and now recently, phosphorothioate-based antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs). Both projects were initiated during his appointment at UNL. In his presentation, he will outline the progress that has been made in two projects: 1) the Stabilin-mediated catabolism of synthetic homogenous heparins and 2) the catabolism of ASOs used to treat chronic disease.
