The vaginal microbiome has an important impact on pregnancy outcome and transmission of sexually transmitted infections. A keystone species is Gardnerella vaginalis, a gram-positive anaerobe that produces a cholesterol-dependent cytolysin and produces biofi lms on the vaginal epithelium. We want to know what infl uences the growth of G. vaginalis and how it, in turn, influences its host and the vaginal microbiome.
