Direct to consumer sales will be focus of an Annie’s Project Retreat to be offered Dec. 8-9 by Nebraska Extension, at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center in Scottsbluff.
Higher numbers of women are diversifying their agricultural operations by including direct to consumer sales such becoming a farmer’s market vendor, delivering farm fresh eggs to consumers and other niche marketing ventures, according to retreat coordinator Jessica Groskopf, Extension Educator – Ag Economics.
The program will help people think about how to connect with consumers, price the goods they produce, and ensure that their products are safe for others to consume.
“Selling directly to a consumer is the perfect way for farmers and ranchers to tell their story,” she said. “But there are challenges of providing marketing goods this way.”
The retreat begins Friday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m. and concludes Saturday, Dec. 9 , at 3 p.m. Participants receive handouts, an Annie’s Project Portfolio and meals.
Sessions include brief presentations, discussions focused on the participants’ questions. Attendees will hear from multiple direct sales experts including Nebraska’s Buy Fresh, Buy Local program, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, an expert in canning jams, jellies, and pickles, a local agronomist who specializes in fruit and vegetable production.
