BSE Colloquium Series – Hyun-Seob Song Ph.D

Modeling Microbial Intelligence

Date: Time: 12:00 pm–1:00 pm
Contact: Rebecca Wachs, (402) 472-2262,
Microorganisms show what we might call intellectual behaviors, including decision making, anticipation, adaptation, communication, and socialization. Accounting for these human-like behaviors in modeling is critical for accurate prediction of complex microbial dynamics. This seminar will present examples of microbial intelligence and modeling approaches to discuss their practical importance from an engineering perspective.

Dr. Song has a broad interest in chemical and biological modeling. He was trained and worked as a chemical process engineer through PhD program (at Korea University) and industrial experience (at LG Chem) and started focusing on computational systems biology afterwards (at Purdue University). Prior to joining UNL in 2019, he worked as a senior research scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
