Dr. Buffington is a Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience, Cell Biology, & Anatomy at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Her lab is focused on identifying the mechanisms underlying the transgenerational impact of maternal environmental insults on offspring neurodevelopmental health outcomes. They are particularly interested in understanding how maternal diet-induced prepregnancy obesity and related functional changes in remodeling of the maternal gut microbiome during pregnancy affect fetal neurodevelopment and, ultimately, offspring neurobehavioral health outcomes. Dr. Buffington’s primary expertise is in molecular and behavioral neuroscience, electrophysiology, and microscopy.
