DESCRIPTION:Nebraska Extension will host a risk management workshop for cat
 tle producers in West Point from 10\:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 16 at the 
 Nielsen Center\, 200 Anna Stalp Ave. Cattle producers will learn strategie
 s designed to reduce risk exposure to achieve a profitable outcome in unce
 rtain times. \n\nCurrent issues facing the cattle industry will be discuss
 ed to help producers to make more informed decisions facing the industry.\
 n\nTopics will include managing drought risk with PRF insurance\, managing
  price risk and strategies to achieve better profitability. Specific marke
 ting tools covered during the workshop to manage price risk will include f
 utures and options as well as Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) Insurance. P
 articipants will be guided through a case study to better understand strat
 egies discussed during the workshop. \n\nFunding for this project is provi
 ded in partnership with the USDA-NIFA under Award Number 2018-70027-28586.
 \n\nThe workshop is free and a meal will be provided courtesy of KTIC Radi

DESCRIPTION:The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Center for Agricultural 
 Profitability has scheduled a series of training workshops for its new onl
 ine Agricultural Budget Calculator tool. \n\nThe Agricultural Budget Calcu
 lator (ABC) is a free enterprise-budgeting and decision-making tool that i
 s designed to assist agricultural producers in determining their cost of p
 roduction and projected cash and economic returns for various farm or ranc
 h enterprises.\n\n“Knowing the cost of production for our agricultural e
 nterprises is even more critical now\, with a larger investment due to hig
 her input and operation costs\,” said Glennis McClure\, an extension edu
 cator and farm and ranch management analyst with the Center for Agricultur
 al Profitability. “Estimating your cost of production can assist in maki
 ng important management decisions now and throughout the production and ma
 rketing year.”\n\nMcClure\, who works closely with the ABC tool and univ
 ersity commodity budgets\, will facilitate the workshops. She will demonst
 rate the program’s features and teach participants how to get started an
 d use the program. A hands-on practice session will offer users the opport
 unity to begin creating their own enterprise budgets. Attendees are encour
 aged to bring their own laptop computer to use during the workshop. If nee
 ded\, mobile lab computers will be available for use. Workshop topics will
  include\: downloading and using university crop budgets as a guide\; how 
 to create customized crop budgets for owned and rented farms\; how to ente
 r field operations and material inputs and determine costs on a per-field 
 basis\; how to generate enterprise reports that include cash costs\, econo
 mic costs and anticipated returns\; the use of analysis features\, includi
 ng the risk module\; and more.\n\nThe workshops are free to attend\, but r
