John Stier, associate dean Academic Programs and professor, Department of Plant Sciences, University of Tennessee, presents “From World Cup Soccer to the Environment and Back Again-A Journey of Turfgrass Science.” A story of how creating a unique playing field for World Cup soccer led to development of research and Extension programs to study grasses for sports and environmental stewardship, with impacts ranging from fertilizer rules to the 2026 World Cup.
