Lawyers - and indeed, all Americans - are currently struggling through one of the most polarized political cultures in our memory. This challenges our abilities to speak thoughtfully, listen graciously, value diversity, and build community. As lawyers, this presents a roadblock for our profession. Students of Nebraska Law should be equipped to deal with this challenge head-on.

To encourage these ideals, the Inclusive Leadership Fellows Program would like to invite the Nebraska Law community to a special event on Tuesday, October 29th from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM. “Disagreeing Better: Fostering Meaningful Civic Conversations” will be a panel discussion about the importance of civil engagement around tough issues. The event is co-sponsored by the Federalist Society, the American Constitution Society, and Nebraska Law’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office.

Moderated by Professor & Associate Dean Anthony Schutz, with opening remarks from Dean Richard Moberly, the panel will feature an all-star cast: Nebraska State Treasurer Tom Briese, Nebraska State Senator Wendy DeBoer, Kutak Rock Partner and Author Jay Jackson, and Professor Kristen Blankley. Questions were developed by Inclusive Leadership Fellows. Lunch will be provided to all that RSVP by October 23rd at 11:59 PM. We encourage all to RSVP to provide an accurate head count.

This event, featuring a bipartisan panel and ideologically diverse sponsorship, will be one week before Election Day. That was intentional. We hope to garner significant attendance from the student body, no matter their politics. We also hope that a strong showing of faculty, staff, and administration would emphasize the importance of these attributes to our profession.

This lecture is approved for 1.0 continuing education credit in Nebraska (including 1.0 hour of ethics).
