Activity
Time:
Prof. James Tierney will present “Stockbroker Secrets.” In his talk, Tierney will talk about how can people know whether they’re getting high quality financial advice? Law encourages people to do their own homework—visiting an online website where you can look up a financial adviser’s history—to avoid low quality advice. Professor Tierney will discuss why this system allows stockbrokers to keep secrets from their clients, and why this might make us skeptical about the “do your homework” solution to finding high quality financial advice.
S.T.I.R. stands for Share, Think, Inspire, Relax and were created for students to learn more about what the College’s professors are researching but also a time to enjoy snacks, a drink, and relax. The professor has 15 minutes to present their topic, after which students and faculty are encouraged to discuss the topic.
