S.T.I.R. stands for Share, Think, Inspire, Relax and were created for students to learn more about what the College’s professors are researching but also a time to enjoy snacks, a drink, and relax. The professor has 15 minutes to present their topic, after which students and faculty are encouraged to discuss the topic.

This STIR Talk features Professor and Director of the Children’s Justice Clinic, Michelle Paxton. Prof. Paxton’s talk entitled Babies, Best Interest, and Bias: Advocating for those without a Voice talks about representing clients with diminished capacities creates unique challenges when one’s duty is to assess their best interests and explores how acknowledging one’s own biases and how they impact perspectives and analyses is necessary for effective advocacy, especially when a client has limited or no ability to communicate.
