Abstract: Let R be a Noetherian commutative ring. The ascending chain condition on ideals often guarantees that certain properties associated to large powers of an ideal either stabilize or take a particularly nice form. In this talk we will discuss a few limits from classical commutative algebra derived from powers of an ideal and some of the asymptotic invariants they give rise to. If time permits, we will discuss some open questions regarding sequences derived from powers of an ideal that potentially have unexpected limits.
