Theoretical biologists seek to build models based on biological principles and use those models to explain or predict biological phenomena. One rich setting for theoretical biology is life history theory of plants, which concerns issues such as how plants grow and reproduce over time, how different environments shape the specific traits of successful species, and how individual plants respond to environmental change.
