DESCRIPTION:A fundamental problem in algebraic geometry is the resolution o
f singularities\, which is a very active area of research nowadays\, espec
ially in the case of varieties over fields of positive characteristic. In
the 1970’s\, John Nash got interested in this problem and proposed a met
hod to try and solve it. In this talk\, we first introduce the problem of
resolution of singularities by means of simple examples. We then show that
the method proposed by Nash solves the singularities of a particular fami
ly of varieties that can be described by combinatorial objects. This is a
joint work with Jack Jeffries and Luis Núñez Betancourt.
