SUMMARY:Hongjie Dong\, Brown University
STATUS:CONFIRMED
DESCRIPTION:The main impetus for plasma studies is nuclear fusion\, with to
kamak serving as a key device that confines charged particles within a tor
oidal boundary in the presence of a magnetic field. The relativistic Vlaso
v-Maxwell-Landau system is a fundamental model\, describing the evolution
of charged particles under the combined effects of electromagnetic forces
and collisions. In this talk\, I will present joint work with Yan Guo and
Timur Yastrzhembskiy on this system in a general three-dimensional domain.
We consider physically natural boundary conditions\: particles are specul
arly reflected at the boundary\, while the electromagnetic field satisfies
the perfectly conducting boundary condition.\nWe establish a global well-
posedness theory for solutions near equilibrium and prove their stability
as time tends to infinity. I will begin with a brief introduction to the m
odel and its physical meaning\, and then explain some of the main mathemat
ical difficulties arising from the coupling of particle transport\, collis
ions\, electromagnetic fields\, and boundary effects. The talk will be acc
essible without any background in plasma physics or partial differential e
 quations.

DESCRIPTION:Drawing on the results of the Nebraska Roots Migration Survey\,
this talk will aim to dispel negative stereotypes associated with rural N
ebraskans (e.g.\, they are 'left behind' or 'stuck') and the hollowing out
of rural areas (i.e.\, 'brain drain') by showing staying as an active\, i
ntended\, and deliberate choice made based on one's cultural\, familial\,
and moral values\, as well as socio-economic opportunities.

STATUS:CONFIRMED
DESCRIPTION:In Indigenous traditions our livelihoods as humans rely upon th
e livelihoods of the beings with whom we share this world. This lecture wi
ll discuss how these connections have been disrupted\, resulting in social
inequities and health impacts seen today.\n\nThe rise and support of deco
lonial projects aim to reinstate woog p\, or "the good life\," for all peo
ples. This talk will highlight local actions in Nebraska that work to (re)
establish connections between peoples and place\, striving for woog p.

DESCRIPTION:The good life is much more than the pursuit of happiness-it's i
nstead the pursuit of and reflection on meaning. Personal storytelling is
one method for making meaning\, bridging divides\, building connection\, a
nd coping with life's difficulties.\n\nThis talk will focus on how the con
tent\, process\, and application of personal storytelling affects and refl
ects the quality of our lives.
