On December 7th, in Kimball Recital Hall, the combined traditional UNL choirs will combine for an exciting holiday-inspired massed choral performance of seasonal favorites titled COCOA & CAROLS: A FAMILY YULETIDE FESTIVAL OF CHOIRS. Combined will be UNL’s University Singers, the Women’s Chorale, the Varsity Men’s Chorus, Chamber Singers, and All-Collegaite Choir. Special guests will be the Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) All-City Girls Choir under the direction of Wes Hansmeyer who is currently serving as President of the Nebraska Choral Directors Association.
Familiar carols programmed will be: I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, The First Nowell, O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Of the Father’s Love Begotten, A King is Born, the 23rd Psalm, and O Come All Ye Faithful, plus more. the 300-plus musicians will perform as individual ensembles and also combine for many carols sung surrounding the audience with singers on the stage, in the balcony, in the side aisles, and in the back of the auditorium. The choirs will be accompanied by organ, brass, piano, and percussion. The choirs will perform in numerous languages including English, Hebrew, Latin, Latvian, and more.
As per tradition, the audience will be asked to join in singing traditional songs. And yes, cocoa will be served after the performances. The concerts are scheduled for 3pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the door.
