DESCRIPTION:John Bailey\, Larson Distinguished College Professor of Music\,
  will present a recital of flute music on Tuesday\, January 24\, 2017.  H
 e will be joined by pianist Dimitra Kokkinopoulou in standard and colorful
  works in the flute repertoire\:  Devienne’s Sonata in D Major\, Op. 68
 \, No. 1\, Georges Hüe’s Fantasy\, a classic in the Paris Conservatory 
 repertoire\, and Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu’s First Sonata.  Organ
 ist Christopher Marks will join Bailey in a multi-movement work by America
 n organist and composer Gerald Near\, and a work for solo flute by award-w
 inning contemporary composer Katherine Hoover\, Spirit Flight\, with Nativ
 e American flute inspiration\, rounds out the program. \n\nDr. John Baile
 y is the Richard H. Larson Distinguished Professor of Music and a member o
 f the Moran Woodwind Quintet\, the resident faculty quintet at the Glenn K
 orff School of Music. He is principal flutist with the Lincoln Symphony Or
 chestra\, with which he has appeared as concerto soloist on numerous occas
 ions\, most recently in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. Since 2005 he
  has also served as the director of UNL’s annual summer Chamber Music In
 stitute.
