The UNL Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Student Soloist Night on Tuesday, March 14 at 7:30 PM in Kimball Recital Hall. The concert features winners of the 2016-17 Undergraduate and Graduate Solo Competitions. Featured on the program are undergraduate winner Alyssa Vrable, soprano, singing “Adieu notre petite table” from Jules Massenet’s Manon, graduate winner Jennifer Reeves, clarinet, playing Scott McAllister’s X Concerto, and graduate winner Dimitra Kokkinopoulu, piano, playing the first movement of Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor. Also on the program are Beethoven’s Overture to Fidelio and Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. The concert is conducted by UNL Director of Orchestras Tyler White and Graduate Associate Conductors David Galant, Aaron Beaver, and Anna-Maria Gkouni.

Members of the Symphony Orchestra include students from throughout the university. The ensemble’s objectives are to prepare and present a wide variety of repertoire including chamber, symphonic, and operatic masterworks, and to maintain professional standards of musicianship and etiquette within a collegial and supportive educational atmosphere. The Symphony Orchestra is one of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s most active performing organizations, presenting concerts both on and off campus throughout the academic year.
