Karen Becker, cello, and Ann Chang, piano, will perform pieces by Spanish composer Enrique Granados, the first of two sonatas by Gabriel Faure, a piece not often performed, and Beethoven’s Sonata in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1. Becker will also perform the Sonata for Solo Cello by American composer Paul Whear.
Cellist Karen Becker is an active soloist and avid chamber player who has performed throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Becker is a faculty artist with the Red Lodge Music Festival in Montana, the Omaha Conservatory of Music Institute, and the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival in Praque (Czech Republic). She has recorded for several PBS documentaries and with several bands, including Bright Eyes. She tours regularly as a soloist and chamber player and is a member of the Concordia String Trio with violinist Marcia Henry-Liebenow and violist Leslie Perna as well as Trio Nuovo with UNL pianist Mark Clinton and Anton Miller, concertmaster of Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Ann Chang (piano) is an active soloist and lecturer in the U.S. and Europe. Her curiosity and wide-ranging musical interests have taken her in many directions, allowing her to forge a unique career and establish a distinguished reputation. She is in demand as an artist and teacher, and her recent appointment as a Fulbright Scholar in Belgium (Brussels) has given her an opportunity to expand her interest in the study of Classic Performance Practice. Ann is the Founder of the award-winning Meadowlark Music Festival, and created the artistic vision for this summer series of chamber music performances. More recently, she was appointed Artistic Director of the Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska.
