In celebration of Black History Month, The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music University Singers and All-Collegiate Choir join forces with Lincoln High School and the First-Plymouth Congregational Church for a concert celebrating the contributions of African-American composers, poets, and conductors to our county’s rich heritage of choral singing. From music that traces its roots to the horrors of enslavement to new anthems celebrating the steady progress toward freedom and equality, this concert was created to inspire hope of an even brighter future for all people of all colors and creeds. Many of today’s most notable African-American choral composers will be represented including: Adofphus Hailstork, Rollo Dillworth, André Thomas, Rosephanie Powell, and Joseph Jennings. Conductors Dr. Pete Eklund, Dr. Matthew Oltman and Kathy Simpson, will be joined by special guest, Dr. Darryl White on flugelhorn for a stirring arrangement of Amazing Grace, and the combined voices of all three choirs will raise the roof with a spirited closer that is sure to send you home with a song in your heart.

Under the direction of Dr. Peter Eklund, the University Singers, University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s premiere and historic flagship choral ensemble, presents the finest and most versatile choral singers in the entire University. While many of the choir’s singers are music majors, students from throughout the University are encouraged to audition and participate.

Directed by Matthew Oltman, the All-Collegiate Choir is comprised of University of Nebraska–Lincoln students as well as singers from the Lincoln area. This group performs large-scale works with orchestral, organ, and piano accompaniment, including many popular choral favorites.
