The University of Nebraska Percussion Studio presents “Songs for the Earth,” a belated Earth Day celebration featuring music from around the globe. The concert includes the premiere of Nebraska Steel, the University of Nebraska’s inaugural steel drum band. The first half of the concert includes MAG7 by Michael Burritt, Redshift by DMA percussion student Mike Roe, and the world premiere of Draw Me the Sun for percussion ensemble by Assistant Professor of Composition Dr. Greg Simon.

The second half of the concert is a steel drum extravaganza, featuring Nebraska Steel and special guest Pangea- a steel band comprised of Lincoln Public School students directed by Nebraska alumni Gary Shuda and Aaron Mathis. Nebraska Steel’s program includes an arrangement of “Africa” by Toto, arranged by MM percussion student Louis Raymond-Kolker. To conclude the evening, Nebraska Steel and Pangea will join forces for a mass steel band finale.

The Percussion Ensemble is made up of students from the percussion studio, under the direction of Dave Hall.
