The UNL Jazz Ensembles conclude their 2018-19 season with a celebration of new music from student composers at the Glenn Korff School of Music. The Big Band and Jazz Orchestra will premiere a combined seven new works by School of Music students, written specifically for the composers’ showcase concert. Featured composers include Louis Raymond-Kolker, Ruben Dario Goméz, Ian Whillock, Christina Ensign, Runkun Li, Abigail Siedell, and Nathaniel Ingracia. The program also includes world-class music for jazz ensemble by luminaries such as Ellen Rowe and Eric Richards.

Big Band is a vital component of the UNL jazz curriculum. Through intensive rehearsal and performance, students are encouraged to develop and nurture the fundamental skills necessary to perform a wide variety of repertoire, and to engage in the creative process through improvisation. UNL Big Band is specifically designed to motivate and inform music educators and aspiring teachers through innovative programming and pedagogical methods.

The Jazz Orchestra is the university’s showcase jazz organization and one of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s most visible performing groups. Membership in the Jazz Orchestra is determined by audition each semester, and music majors as well as non-majors are encouraged to try out. This versatile ensemble performs all styles of music from Duke Ellington to the contemporary artists of today.

Adults $5; Students/Seniors $3
