Bach wrote the sixth suite for a five-stringed instrument of some kind. But for what instrument was it composed and why? Mr. Potter will perform his own edition of this suite on a 5-stringed viola after attempting to answer some difficult questions about the work as conceived by Bach. The viola used in the performance was provided to the University thanks to a gift from the Constance Miriam Syford & Ethel Corrine Syford Memorial Fund which supports faculty research. This performance will be the first time the instrument will be heard in public.
