Nebraska Food for Health Center member, Dr. Yanbin Yin, Department of Food Science and Technology at UNL, will present, “From microbiome to personalized nutrition: the study of CAZymes that degrade dietary fibers”, as part of the Food for Health Seminar Series.

Abstract: Different human individuals respond to the same diet differently. One of the major reasons is because they have different gut microbiome compositions, which leads to personalized microbiome response. Therefore, by analyzing each person’s gut microbiome DNA data, we can predict the functional capacity of that person’s gut microbes, e.g., the ability of the person’s gut microbes to digest certain prebiotics or fibers. In this talk, I will talk about my personal perspective of personalized nutrition. I will also discuss about how our lab’s research on carbohydrate-degrading CAZyme bioinformatics tool development may be able to contribute to the realization of microbiome-based personalized nutrition or precision microbiomics in the near future.

Seminars will take place in the Food Innovation Center (FIC) 277 auditorium and will be streamed live to the public via Zoom.
