The Department of Physics and Astronomy is working in coordination with the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau and Lincoln Public Schools on a series of activities around the solar eclipse.

Our Science and Engineering Fair will be held outside Haymarket Park, home of the Lincoln Saltdogs. The fair will have demos, activities, and information booths in the Haymarket Park parking lot open and free to the public. The Society of Physics Students will have several tables of interactive demos. Our Department will set up several portable sun-viewing telescopes. We will also stream live video from the UNL Student Observatory and the UNL Minnich Solar Telescope, which usually sits atop the Physics building and will be trucked to the fair. The Minnich Solar Telescope will be set up with a “beam-splitter” that will allow viewing directly through an eyepiece while a camera picks up the same image for streaming online and the stadium screens.

The Saltdogs will play an “Eclipse-Delayed Game” at noon.
